I am so honoured to have gotten to photograph this premie’s 1st birthday photo session! I have to hold back tears while writing this blog, as I too had a premature newborn, and spent many nights in the NICU at McMaster. My premie was not as early as Aailyah, and definitely not as small, actually he was bigger then most full term babies! But he still had his struggles to overcome and get strong! He had a hard time breathing on his own. He was hocked up to machines, and I didn’t get to hold him for a couple days. He ended up loosing 2 lbs, but now he is an energetic 3 year old who shows no signs of the struggles he had to overcome at birth! But enough about my story, I’m here to share this beautiful little girls story!
Aailyah was born at 25 weeks 6 days, on March 20th, 2015. She only weighed a mere 2 lbs!! She spent 112 days in the NICU, and arrived home 2 weeks after her due date! As hard as it was for me to have a baby in the NICU for 2 weeks, I can’t even imagine how hard it was for this family! The NICU doctors and nurses are so beyond amazing, and care for our babies so well!
At present day Aailyah is a happy, healthy, beautiful 1 year old. Who is thriving and full of smiles! Her shirt says it perfectly, “this is what a miracle looks like”!
This Premie 1st Birthday Photo Session was so much fun, though Aailyah was not a fan of the bear hat, I just think she is so super adorable in it! I still managed to grab some awesome shots with that gorgeous smile! How fitting too that my flower backdrop was up, and I think suits this Premie 1st Birthday Photo Session perfectly! A tiny little lotus flower, that through the muddy waters has grown and thrived into this beautiful little girl!
