Everything You Need To Know About the Cost of a Newborn Session

The number one question I get asked when a client is inquiring about a Newborn Session is…What Is My Newborn Session Going To Cost?  Well there are many factors that go into this answer, and for every photographer you might get a different answer for that same question, What Is My Newborn Session Going To Cost?

First of all you need to understand that some photographers have “all-inclusive” packages, and some have a “session fee” and then you choose what you would like to purchase “a la carte”.  It could be digital photos and/or prints/albums/wall displays.  The options are endless.

With Gibson Photography, the answer to your question…What Is My Newborn Session Going To Cost?  It is the Newborn Session fee, and then you choose your options separately.  Digitals and/or products.  Gibson Photography has two newborn session options, just baby, and the second session is baby with parents/siblings.  These are two different prices, as one is longer than the other, and has a lot more of a set up.

My newborn photography sessions used to be an all inclusive package, and about 2 years ago I switched to session fee and a la carte.  No matter which way you look at it, you are paying the same price.  I choose to switch over to this payment option because I don’t want to force you into a package that might not work for you.  This way you make your own choices on how many photos you want.  Some clients purchase only a few digital photos, but they want to spend their money on an album or prints, wall displays, newborn announcements.  By only paying a newborn session fee for the time and prep of the actual session, makes it so much easier for you to choose exactly what you want.

So Why are there So Many Different Newborn Session Costs?

Well, every photographer basis their prices on their cost of doing business.  How much does it cost to heat the room up to the appropriate temperature?  Money spent on props.  Email responses.  The actual time for the session.  Education.  Equipment.  Experience.  Business Insurance.  Accounting Fees, and so much more.  However, I am not going to bombard you with all of that.  If you see a photographer that you like, look at their work.  What is the reason you like them?  Why didn’t you like the other photographer in the same city/town?  There is usually a reason, and it most likely comes down to that photographer’s experience.

So in Conclusion to your question: What Is My Newborn Session Going to Cost?  I suggest you decide what your budget is.  Realize this is a luxury item.  If you want photos and have been eyeing a photographer for a long time, put money aside every month during your pregnancy.  Get what you want, because you don’t want to regret not doing it later.  This special time only happens once.  Also, talk to your photographer a lot of them have payment plans.
